What a day it turned out to be in the end on 2010 Vancouver Olympics in British Columbia. Anne Murray alongside other stars such as Barbara Ann Scott-King, Bobby Orr, Jacques Villeneuve etc carried the Olympic flag to begun the star-studded finale. The joys of the day, however, were marred with tragedies.
Canadian singer 64-year-old Morna Anne Murray was also invited at the graceful occasion on Friday night where everyone had gathered to enjoy the historic moments and a triumph returning to Canada after so many years. However, there were two tragedies to begin with that won’t be easy to forget.
Earlier a tragic training-run young death occurred during the day that brought tears in the eyes of everyone present on the gracious occasion and made things very gloomy despite intricate planning of seven long years on a day of triumph. Athletes from Georgia paraded through the B.C. Place Stadium while wearing black bands on their arms and they removed hats in order to pay tribute to their teammate, 21-year-old Nodar Kumaritashvili that died in a most horrific manner.
The beleaguered team was given a standing ovation by the capacity crowd and later, all the Television stations aired the shocking forage wherein the young luger sled Nodar was shown smashing into a finishing-line metal pole. Airing of the accident was followed by a press conference by Jacques Rogge the president of International Olympic Committee wherein Jacques expressed deep grief over the death of young man.
Later malfunctions with Olympic torch made the games begin with unexpected thus turning the proceedings more unlike it. However, the star-studded gala is all there to bring more for us all therefore; lets pray and hope there’re no more tragedies and no more tears!
