Bill Belichick

A bold decision by Bill Belichick proved fatal and New England Patriots were deprived of a famous victory. During a Patriots v/s Indianapolis Colts game last night, a gamble by head coach William Stephen Belichick caused Patriots 35-34 loss.

On Sunday night November 15, 2009 one bold decision by 57-year-old head coach of ‘New England Patriots’ paved way for the Indianapolis Colts to counterattack and win a lost game. The Colts were way behind with mere 7 points to 24 till the first half and they still struggled with 14 to 31 while the fourth quarter had already started.

At a point when the scores were set at 34-28 and the clock showed hardly two minutes or so remaining till the final whistle, Bill decided to take his chances. With his mind set to beat the clock and restrict the Colts to existing 28 points, first Bill left his offense from the 28-yard line, for a fourth-and-two play. Later, Bill really gambled by trying a first down in order to grab the possession of ball till the time ran out.

Instead, what thrilled the Indianapolis Colts’ fans at Lucas Oil Stadium was a turn-of-tables event. The moment they grabbed the ball after Patriots’ quarterback Tom Brady and tailback Kevin Faulk completed the fourth-down pass, the game was on for Colts. The points they had scored in fourth-quarter proved really vital as soon as Faulk was knocked during a juggling catch but and ended up shy of a first down.

Overall the Colts scored as many as 21 points in the fourth-quarter and last 7 points enabled them to remain unbeaten with an impressive record of 9-0 against New England Patriots, their arch rivals. Thus in the end, it was all Belichick’s confidence in Brady and as well his offense that allowed the opposition to grab only one opportunity they got in the closing moments.
