Florida Gators won 41-17 but linebacker Brandon Spikes’ eye gouge didn’t please Florida Coach Urban Meyer. During their 17th win against Georgia on Sunday, a video caught Brandon Spikes busy in a foul play and his eye gouge was recorded. Urban Meyer had some serious post-game talk with the linebacker.
Lack of sportsmanship would be seen on more than one occasion on Sunday while two arch rivals were up against each other during their encounter at the Jacksonville Municipal Stadium. Florida Gators and Georgia had a crunch game and prior to this, Gators were victorious on as many as 16 times. May be due to the reason that Gators were overenthusiastic with yet another victory in sight whereas the Georgians were desperate to win too, the things went wrong several times during the game.
The umpires were found pretty busy to impose penalties on various accounts such as verbal altercations, lack of sportsmanship, unnecessary rush of blood and even physical encounters between the players. Urban Meyer the Gators’ coach showed his serious concern over a similar incident wherein the Gators’ captain and a senior campaigner Brandon Spikes was evidently seen trying to break into the face mask of Washaun Ealey, Georgia’s running back.
The very much apparent attempt to gouge Ealey’s eyes has been video taped and the video is being attached here for ready reference for readers and the viewers who might have missed the action live. Meyer announced last night that he’ll definitely have to have a serious dialogue with the linebacker lately.
Although the 22-year-old Shelby (North Carolina) native Brandon Spikes did contribute a lot in Gator’s 41-17 record victory over Georgia which also happens to be their 17th during the last 20 years, yet his act didn’t please coach and the team management.
