The Madison County jury verdict in Carla Hughes – Banks murder trial suggests Carla Hughes liable for death penalty without parole. Verdict against Carla Hughes is twofold; murder of Avis Banks and blind killing of her unborn child. The murder was plotted to ‘possess’ Keyon Pittman, victim Banks’ fiancé.
A former Chastain middle school teacher in Jackson namely Carla Hughes has been sent behind the bars for life in prison and in addition to her imprisonment, Carla has been restricted to use the right of parole. A Madison County on Tuesday, has finally come up with its two-fold verdict and levied the punishment upon Carla, convicting her of a brutal capital murder whereby she killed a woman not for ransom, not for robbery; the poor pregnant woman Avis Banks was the victim of an illicit relation between her fiancé and the killer.
The prosecutors brought out the details of a 2006 cold-blooded murder when Avis Banks was killed in the garage of a Ridgeland house she shared with Keyon Pittman, her fiancé. Coincidently the killer Carla Hughes and Keyon Pittman were teachers at the same Jackson school but their little dirty secret was not a coincidence at all; Carla had a bodily relation with Banks fiancé.
Avis Banks died of the several gunshots to her leg, buttock and head but one must wonder to notice the rage and fury of the attacker evident from the victim’s lifeless body that showed plenty of stabbing and beating marks all over her face and neck. It could be a possibility that Banks got a word about Hughes’ plans to take possession of Pittman.
The jury announced its verdicts in the capital murder trial: One for the killing of Avis Banks, the mother whereas another for the killing of her unborn baby. It may be a rumor yet but it’s overheard that Pittman married someone else therefore, the best place for Carla Hughes seems to be where she’s heading.
