On account of Columbus Day celebrations, most of the businesses remain closed in the U.S. Columbus Day or the Día de la Raza (Day of the (Hispanic) race) is celebrated as a federal holiday all over American countries. Monday is going to be observed as a 1971 holiday therefore, banks, schools, financial markets, federal agencies etc., will follow the tradition.
Americans are celebrating Columbus Day Monday, as it is always celebrated on second Monday in the month of October each year marked as the anniversary of Christopher Columbus’ arrival to American land. According to the Julian calendar the date of Christopher’s arrival is October 12, 1492 whereas it’s October 21, 1492 according to modern Gregorian calendar. However, the day is considered as an official holiday and is celebrated as Columbus Day.

All state offices, City offices in New Castle and Parker City will be closed, whereas Muncie, Hartford City, Montpelier, Dunkirk, Portland and Winchester area offices will be opened. Then there are County offices and courts in Delaware and Randolph counties as well as town offices in Daleville, Eaton and Gaston that take it as a holiday but on the other hand, Blackford, Henry and Jay counties and town halls in Albany and Yorktown offices will carry on the business. License branches and post offices are closed whereas many financials institutions and trash collection centers in major cities and counties carry on with their services for general public.
The Columbus Day was declared a U.S. holiday in the year 1971 and since then, its been fixed to second Monday in the month of October which is a Thanksgiving day in Canada as ascertained since 1959. However, it was 1905 when first it became an official state holiday in Colorado only and in 1934 it was considered as a federal holiday.
The Italian explorer Christopher Columbus’ voyages to explore the New World never paid fruitful and while attempting to find a route to Asia via Western Ocean, he accidentally landed on the shores of Americas and he literally didn’t know what had he discovered as it laid the basis of a totally new era.
