33-year-old Eddie Freas from Pennsville, New Jersey has found relief for himself in triathlons after being addicted by drug and alcohol for his past 20 years. Eddie Freas is known to have completed 2.4 miles in swimming, 112 miles in biking and 26.2 miles in running.
Eddie Freas has described his life history saying that his youth was like a process of drug addiction. But, in the year 2007, when he came to know the story of a former drug addict Todd Crandell, aired on the ESPN. The story of Todd Crandell was very familiar to that of his life. But, the only difference that Todd Crandell had already competed his drug addiction in triathlons. Hence, he was inspired by the story of Todd Crandell and started his life to keeping him away from the drugs.
After that inspiration, Eddie Freas took a bus and went the office of “Racing for Recovery” in Sylvania, Ohio. He said, he started living away from the drugs and learned how to clean his life and take advantages of fitness.
After recovery, when Eddie Freas went back to his hometown, he was like that he did not wanted to enter his home, as his home was the place where he did all that dirt. But after a passage of time, he thought that his hometown wanted him, hence, he returned back and started helping the people of his hometown.
Eddie Freas started to train a former high school wrestler 19-year-old Dustin Deckard who was recovering from the addiction of drugs.
Eddie Freas and Dustin Deckard are now very good friends just like brothers. In the upcoming Sunday, Freas and Deckard will head to the half triathlon of “Racing for Recovery” at Monroe, Michigan and the teen will race there for the first time.
