The Federal government being closed on Tuesday could be attributed to the current weather conditions in Washington where it snowed heavily last night. A total of eight tonnes of salt have been used to clear the roads from the snow that they had been covered in. The average commuter on the Washington freeways is witnessing an average speed of twenty miles per hour. The issues being faced by government workers in reaching their designated offices have contributed to the Federal Government closure on Tuesday.
Facing an extraordinary amount of traffic in the city of Washington, the Office of Personnel Management has stated a one day shutdown for government sites. The Federal Government closed Tuesday will remain inactive for the duration of Tuesday, the 9th of February, 2010.
The site of Operation Status and Schedules, managed by the Office of Personnel Management, states that because of issues relating to high volumes of traffic, government websites will remain unavailable. Though the duration of inaccessibility has not been mentioned as yet, the site advises users to try accessing the relevant pages again at later time.
The Federal Government closed for Tuesday might cause inconvenience to users who might be relying on important information from such sites but work is expected to resume as normal shortly.
The shutdown gives greatest compensation to workers scheduled to work on Tuesday. The workers entitled to a paid leave include the nonemergency workers who are not expected to attend their work place for the entire day of Tuesday. Emergency workers on the other hand are expected to get to their work places at their normal times.
