CNN anchor and correspondent Heidi Collins is leaving. Reportedly, Jan 15 was her last day with the Cable News Network whereby she served since 2002 with utmost dedication. 42-year-old Heidi Collins left since CNN reportedly didn’t renew her contract.
The news surfaced on the wire last day that chief medical correspondent for CNN Mr. Sanjay Gupta informed Heidi Collins about the decision and made his farewell remarks, while in Haiti to cover the post-earthquake situation of the island. It has also been learned that Heidi has acknowledge her leaving the channel.
Prior to joining the channel (now) their former correspondent for CNN, Minnesota born Heidi Collins had also served with KUSA as their anchor while in Denver Colorado. She joined their team of CNN Headline News in the year 2002. Her next role over there was of a news reader in ‘American morning’ show whereby she also acted as substitute co-anchor.
In the year 2006, she paved way for Carol Costello to take her seat while she was promoted as fill-in anchor/correspondent and started appearing at Anderson Cooper 360°. Finally, she was entrusted the responsibilities of a dayside anchor and correspondent and she held the position till her last day i.e. January 15, 2010.
Mounds View High School Arden Hills graduate Heidi Collins and Matt Collins have couple of lovely sons and the family lives in Georgia. Since she and one of sons suffer form Celiac Disease, Heidi is reportedly a National Foundation spokeswoman whereby she plays her role to create awareness about the disease that involves at least 1% of the whole American population.
Reportedly, it wasn’t the only reason for Heidi to leave that CNN refused to renew the contract; there were some shuffling of the staff issues as well that led her termination from the job. The channel, however, admired and acknowledged Heidi’s seven years with them and thanked her through one of their spokespersons.
