Lance Berkman the first baseman is reportedly set to be joining New York Yankees from Houston Astros. The news of Yankees acquiring the baseman will be legitimately announced on Saturday. Two other players are involved in the deal that will move to Astros are Mark Melancon and Jimmy Paredes.
Yankees will give 4 million dollars to Astros that has been agreed in the deal. The agreement was agreed by Berkman after he told his team Astros that he will not join 4 teams that also included the name of Chicago White Sox.
Berkman had some rights in his deal and those should have to be relinquished if the deal had to be finalized before 3 pm. The deadline for the deal was extended for one day and it could become official before 3 pm on Saturday.
Berkman is owed 7.5 million dollars as for now and he also has a mutual option of 15 million dollars for 2011 and he only allowed this trade on the state that the alternative will not be taken up. He told that he was a bit anxious regarding this deal. He said that he is from Texas and it is his home city and to play at some other place really feels a bit creepy to him.
He told that his best chance of winning a title was with this team but if this team thinks about this differently he had no problem in joining any other team. He has a batting average of .245 and has hit 13 home runs and 49 RBIs in 85 games he has played.
