The Red Sox have signed 34-year-old Marco Scutaro on a two-year deal. The former Toronto Blue Jays MLB star Marco Scutaro is a right-handed infielder. The preliminary two-year agreement finalized last night may extend to a third year.

Marcos Hernandez “Marco” Scutaro is the new entry into the Boston Red Sox team and the son of a Spanish-Italian couple has been taken in, initially for two years. However, according to a source close to major league, an option of a third year is always there. Since there was no further word from the Red Sox Boston camp till late, the terms and conditions of the agreement remain unknown.

Prior to his joining the Red Sox last night, Marco Scutaro used to play for the New York Mets, the Oakland Athletics and Toronto Blue Jays in the years 2002-2003, 2004-207 and 2008-2009, respectively. It was expected that an official announcement would be made sometime today. However, what has been learnt about Scutaro is that he will be holding the same position he held at Blue Jays; a shortstop, and he may be tried for the same for upcoming couple of seasons.

What the Blue Jays get in return is likely to be the first-round pick from the Red Sox i.e. No. 29. Scutaro would be of more help to Red Sox than a mere shortstop since he can play second and third as well. The solid defender has the reputation of high percentage hitter on base and he’s also considered a ‘Type A’ free agent.

Most probably the Red Sox are desirous the place better be filled by another rising prospect 19-year-old Jose Iglesias therefore; they preferred to offer a two-year deal to Marco Scutaro, hoping Jose to be ready and available within two years or so.
