S. Victor Whitmill has reportedly filed a law suit in order to seek injunction from a Missouri court this Thursday, against the release of ‘Hangover 2.’ Remember Victor? He is the famous tattoo artist behind the well-known Mike Tyson facial ink and he sues the movie producers; for using the same tattoo over the face of Ed Helms.
The award winner tattoo artist S. Victor files the aforementioned lawsuit this Thursday in the federal Missouri court, in an attempt to halt the release of upcoming thriller ‘The Hangover Part- 2.’ According to the details, the injunction being sought is against the producers Warner Bros. and according to the same; the studio will have to stop the release.
Reading the court papers, it appears that Whitmill who had created the Original Mike Tyson Tattoo, would own his artwork done on Mike’s face, as agreed between Whitmill and Mike Tyson at the time when it was scribbled to Mike’s face. In other words, Whitmill also owns the copyright. The tattoo in question, has however been used by the Warner Bros. Entertainment, Inc. while without the artist’s permission.
Court papers further reveal that the artist was not contacted prior to credit a creation that Whitmill actually owns while the producers copied the Original Tattoo, created by specifically for Mike Tyson, by Whitmill. The tattoo has, now been placed on the above noted actor’s face which according to the lawsuit; is unauthorized exploitation and thus; constitutes infringement of copyright.
The story of the movie in question goes like that Ed Helms character finds a tattoo (almost similar to Mike Tyson’s) over his face while he wakes up one morning. Readers must be fully aware of the fact that in Hangover part one, it was Mike Tyson who played a main character therefore; the similarity in Mike and Helms’ tattoos has raised questions.
