Located on the west side of Utah Lake, Nutty Putty Cave is a famous tourist attraction in Stansbury Park. The naturally formed thermal spring cave has always been a source of attraction for the tourists visiting the Utah County.
John Edward Jones’ quest to explore the Nutty Putty Cave proved fatal for him when he ended up trapped in 18 inches wide crevice in a critical and painful position; he was trapped upside down and remained there for several hours. While the rescuers were trying to set him free, one of the equipment they were using, failed and eventually Jones died.
While talking to CNN affiliate KSL, Sgt. Spencer Cannon Utah County Sheriff’s office spokesman, explained that in the first place, it took the rescuers nearly 24 hours to reach the victim due to highly quizzical treacherous terrains in the cave. And when finally they located and managed to get hold of Jones, one of the devices that held him encountered some technical failure and Jones fell back in the same position, and couldn’t survive.
He further explained that the cave that has got many rooms, corridors, and tunnels and at places, the visitors have no other choice but to crawl. The parks’ exact location is 28 miles west of Salt Lake City, Utah where as many as 5000 people pay visits each year. Poor Jones wasn’t as lucky as Chris Morrow who alongside a friend, also got trapped for 15 hours in 1999 but they were rescued successfully.
