In an episode of Oprah Winfrey Show once, the audience and millions of viewers watching at home, were really touched when they saw an innocent girl of ten years of age Shiloh Pepin, whose eyes were so ambitious and so full of life though she was ‘different’ in many ways. Very different from other normal children of her age as she was a born mermaid syndrome child.

Shiloh Pepin, who died at the Maine Medical Center in Kennebunkport town United States on Friday, was born with fused legs due to ‘Sirenomelia’ also called ‘Mermaid Syndrome.’ Keeping in view the history and the likely complications associated with such children, the doctors had predicted a few days’ life for Shiloh Pepin.

But to the surprise of the medical experts and most of all her parents, Shiloh Pepin started to grow and live. She even attended a school up to grade five at Kennebunkport Consolidated. How come one would live while suffering with a very rare congenital deformity that has amalgamated your legs just like a fish? How come the kid survived for as many as ten years with only one kidney and that too partially operative?

As her mother used to call her, the ‘little tough thing’ made it possible and she just waded through the hardships of life with extreme limitations until she was hospitalized in a condition that looked critical to the doctors and finally, the little brave girl gave in on Friday.
