Nassau County Executive 47-year-old Thomas R. “Tom” Suozzi is ahead of his opponent Edward Mangano by 237 votes. Though the margin is pretty slim yet Suozzi is making steady progress according to recent updates on polls. Tuesday polling promised an edge to Suozzi over Edward in Nassau County Legislature.
The Nassau County (New York) executive from Glen Cove Thomas R. “Tom” Suozzi is evidently making a very slow but steady progress in the Nassau County Legislature polls and the Republicans, who were reported to have a strong hold till Tuesday night, now seem to be loosing the grip. The Glen Cove Democrat is becoming a constant threat in that particular vicinity.
According to the Nassau Board of Elections, the Republican challenger Edward Mangano is facing a dramatic change in the situation that seemed to favor him lately. It appears as if the present economic conditions and prevailing ‘tax-burden’ kind of environment has divided and influenced the voters a great deal.
A Democratic lawyer Steven R. Schlesinger stated that a court order was served on the attorneys of both the parties on Tuesday to seize the machines and ballot papers, keeping in view the anticipated close ties. Meanwhile, another result was announced declaring Kathleen Rice the Nassau Democratic District Attorney a winner, over her opponent Republican challenger.
However, the Republican candidate George Maragos was reported leading against Comptroller Howard Weitzman where the voter’s turnout remained relevantly on the lower side. Besides, there are also incidents reported regarding some clashes between the angry voters and the incumbents of both the parties. Suozzi was heard making statement, “people seem in a bad mood, therefore its hard to be an incumbent at this time.”
The Democrats didn’t have very good news from 7the Legislative District of Nassau either whereby Republican challenger Howard Kopel from Lawrence was reported well ahead of Oceanside’s Jeffrey Toback.
