Turkey Cooking Times Per Pound

Turkey cooking time is generically 15 minutes per pound. In order to find out the exact cooking time for your turkey, multiply its weight in pounds and multiply the figure with 15. This is the simplest and easiest way to determine the amount of time you need to keep your oven running.

Turkeys range in weight so cooking each turkey can be different in the amount of time it takes to be well cooked. The process of cooking a turkey is not just limited to the exact determination of time it needs to be cooked, though it is not a rocket science but still little missing details can end up in an uncooked or over-cooked turkey. Cooking a simple thawed, unstuffed turkey needs different time form cooking a stuffed turkey.

Though the cooking time of a turkey is generally fifteen minutes per pound but it only valid if the turkey is thawed and unstuffed. Ideally in such a case keeping the oven temperature stagnant at 325-degree Fahrenheit will result in an excellent well cooked turkey. In case the turkey is stuffed, its cooking time should take approximately an extra 15 minutes to be well-done.

If all things are well taken care of and things still don’t turn out to be very good, the most common problem can be the inaccurate and varying temperature. In very rare cases the weight dependent timing is not calculated properly. Even if the temperatures and weight don’t prove to be fruitful, there are still ways to get things straightened. A cooking thermometer can be handy in this sort of situations. Inserting a cooking thermometer where the thigh of the turkey is thickest, ensuring that part is cooked to at least 180 degrees Fahrenheit and to at least 165 degree Fahrenheit for stuffed. This will ensure that the turkey is well cooked inside-out.
