Barack Obama’s advisor, 40-year-old Van Jones has resigned. The White House confirms the news. Van Jones’ inflammatory statements in recent past lead to his controversial resignation with the White House Council on Environmental Quality.
Anthony “Van” Jones, Special Advisor for ‘Green Jobs’ Enterprise and Innovation at the White House Council (Environmental Quality) who was recently appointed (March, 2009) on a newly created post, by the President of United States of America Barack Obama, has now become the Former Special Advisor.
September 20, 1968 born Van Jones performed an array of tasks there and worked with agencies and departments engaged in environmental services, in order to advance the administration’s climate and energy issues. Improvement of vulnerable communities was the real focus of Jones.
It is being rumored that his resignation form such a key-post is the result of amidst controversy regarding his pre-White House employment political activities as well as some harsh statements in past (derogatory comments against Republicans) for which, he issued an apology on Thursday last. His gestures to quote government role in 9/11 is another major reason. Jones’ name appeared in a separate petition in 2004 to which Jones always refused flat and straight that it didn’t reflect his views at all. However, the Republicans wished him to leave despite his belated apology. His ‘extremist views and coarse rhetoric’ are inexcusable crime in their eyes.
Robert Gibbs, White House press secretary was approached the same day who simply stated that Jones will continue with the administration whereas Anthony Van Jones has resigned last night saying that although he’s being encouraged to stay on and fight, but he’s got to go.
Jones was a civil-rights activist prior this environmental movement. A man who dreamed about a green economy, is no more on his seat as his resignation has been accepted with thanks by Nancy Sutley, the chair of the council.
