VDOT Road Conditions

VDOT has issued warning regarding road conditions with reference to present flood warnings in Pittsylvania County. On Wednesday the Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) informed that most of schools and roads in Pittsylvania would be considered under flood warnings till Thursday morning.

The Virginia Department of Transportation, a government agency that operates the toll facilities such as Dulles Toll Road, George P. Coleman Memorial Bridge as well as Powhite Parkway Extension, had released the news for public awareness on Wednesday regarding next day’s schools and roads conditions.

As most of the Pittsylvania County areas are feared to encounter with heavy rains that may cause floods, the VDOT has released a schedule for the closure of as many as 11 roads in Pittsylvania County alongside one in the Halifax County. The schools may observe an hour delayed start on Thursday, November 12, 2009.

VDOT is also responsible for all Virginia roads’ construction as well as maintenance alongside operating all the roads, bridges and tunnels under their jurisdiction. Most of the roads that remain closed tomorrow are in low-lying areas and always under threat of floods, being near the natural streams and creeks. The expected rainfall in the next many hours is predicted to be quite heavy therefore; following areas are of major concern for VTOD:-

Halifax County:

Route 778 Green Valley Road

Pittsylvania County:

From Country Club Road to Midway, Dairy View, Irish/Tightsqueeze, Lester/Dodson, Road, Afton, Hillside Drive, Strawberry, Millstream, Cobbs Knob, and Buck Horne Road routs.

VDOT further added that if need be, according to the situation possibility of more road closures may also take place.
